Judo For Football Recipients Make Grand Finals!

E-mail Print

Sunday saw the Under 12's, 14's and 15a's from Knox Junior Football Club, and the Under 15d's from Rowville Junior Football Club qualify for their respective Grand Finals. Each of these teams utilised our 'Judo for Football' program during their 2011 season. However Sunday saw a new twist to our services!

Sunday saw Zenith Sports Services Head Trainer Malcolm Bangs assisting the Coaches of Knox's Under 12's and 14's in the Coaches Box. Malcolm was charged with analysing the opposition players.

"This was some serious out of the comfort zone stuff for me!" Malcolm said about his role on Sunday.

"The Coaches had pretty much already done their home work, and I got to put an outsider's spin on it. One example was exposing the speed of one of the opposition players in the 14's game could be used against him with simple movements. When it worked, it was awesome to watch!"

An inspiring example from our Judo for Football perspective was seen during the Under 12's game. Knox began to tackle and show glimpses of physical dominance and confidence during the 2nd quarter and it had instant effect. When they repeated this in the 4th quarter it opened up the game, as the opposition avoided contesting. This allowed Knox to play good Football and basically score at will over running their opposition in the final quarter.

When asked about the U/12's game. Malcolm remarked. "That was inspiring! When I see things like that, it tells me that we are on the right track and that this stuff simply works!"

It appears that Malcolm will again be reprising his role in the Coaches box for the Knox teams this weekend.

Zenith Sports Services would like to wish Knox Junior Football Club U/12c, U/14c & U/15a teams, as well as the U/15d's of Rowville Junior Football Club all the very best in their Grand Finals this coming Sunday.
